WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder says he has agreed a rematch against Luis Ortiz.

The news comes despite Anthony Joshua, the IBF, WBO and WBA 'super' heavyweight champion, saying he wanted face-to-face talks with Wilder to ensure a fight is agreed this year.

However, Wilder appears to have other plans, tweeting on Wednesday morning: "To all my fans, I want to announce that Luis Ortiz and I have signed for a rematch, with the date and site to be announced shortly. All my controversial fights must get dealt with ASAP."

Wilder beat Ortiz in their first fight in New York last year, knocking out the Cuban in the 10th round to inflict his only professional defeat.

The American's most recent fight was a first-round destruction of Dominic Breazeale to record the ninth-straight defence of his WBC title.

Joshua fights Andy Ruiz Jr on Saturday, live on Sky Sports Box Office, and his promoter Eddie Hearn had urged him to concentrate on impressing on his US debut before calling out Wilder.

He said: "Do we have to make the Wilder fight? More than anything. Biggest fight in world boxing and one of the biggest heavyweight fights of all time.

"I'm scared of Ruiz Jr and especially of Wilder - he can punch! But don't you want those moments, a chance to be undisputed?

It was just after his fight with Chisora when he "retired" for the first time, but was still in decent shape I guess. He just didn't seem massive as you'd expect from a HW.

He was over in Vegas catching up with Adam Booth as he had a fighter on a card out there, and I think may have been doing some media work.

He was on the same plane over as me and I collared him when he was waiting to pick up his bags and had a brief chat. He was a nice bloke and pretty approachable, but that might have been because I was the only one who went up to chat to him.

I'm with Trundle, Usyk will be technically the best boxer in the division, but the top 3 will be too big for him.

I'd love to see Dubois against Joshua one day.

That punch Dubois took the other month was a fucking banger, he hardly flinched!

Did you meet him when he was a cruiserweight or a heavyweight? And more to the point, did you do him...?

Re: Wilder running from Joshua still....
Usyk is completely untested at this level, you can't judge him really until he's had a good handful of bouts.

Re: Wilder running from Joshua still....
Usyk's size will be his undoing, I reckon. He's a great boxer, but the heavyweight scene is full of huge boxers at the moment.

I'm not a big bloke, by any means, but when I met Haye I never felt in awe by his size, which I think you'd expect meeting a heavyweight champion of the world.

Dubois will be a monster, and I hope goes all the way.

Another heavyweight who is very fucking good and will trouble them all is Filip Hrgovic.

Usyk and Gorman don't.

Dubois is the only one outside the previously mentioned fighters who could step up, in my opinion the rest need to catch up quickly.

Re: Wilder running from Joshua still....
They aren't fighting tomorrow though are they, this would be a couple of years away, so to say there is nothing to look at after is bollocks.

Dubois bangs harder than anyone and can box.

Gorman is a quality boxer.

Joyce has a granite jaw, a very good jab but lacks a right hand, he is very fit though and will trouble anyone.

Usyk will start to make waves soon

It's a great division right now, the best it has been in years, which is why its great that Dubois and Gorman are getting it on, its a pity no one else is, as the fights are there at all levels. It could be a golden age, instead it's a box office age with no box office match up's.

Re: Wilder running from Joshua still....
Scum, Joyce and Dubois are so inexperienced they won't be anywhere near title level for a while yet.

Also, I'd doubt Joyce will even get to that level unless he improves a lot.

Usyk is unproven at Heavyweight and don't know much about Gorman.

Whyte I agree with, but it also looks as if Wilder is dodging him as well.

Re: Wilder running from Joshua still....
Interesting one, Dubois, when I first saw him he looked to me to be very special, but in his last few fights there's been some flaws. Understandable as he is so young, in his last fight he took an absolute bomb of a shot flush on the whiskers and he took it superbly. Really looking forward to the Gorman fight, going to learn a lot about him as Gorman is a very good boxer.

Re: Wilder running from Joshua still....
"If them three fought within the next year regardless if it's a rematch it makes no sense as there's no where else to go after that."

Heavyweight boxing is at a decent level, best its been for 20 years, they just aren't fighting.

Outside of Wilder, Joshua and Fury, you have White, Gorman, Joyce, Dubois (for me the best of the lot) Usyk, Jermain Franklin

To say they have no where to go after is just horse shit.

Give me the 70's and 80's when all the big guns traded with each other... the politics in boxing STINKS

You talk shit pal, look at all the records of the boxers of that era and they fought a load of shit, more so than today’s crop. The difference is that there wasn’t the internet and television cameras all the time. They fought more regular than nowadays I give them that but as for worthy opponents, they’re worse than today.

Ali fought Frazier and Ken Norton 3 (THREE) times... he fought Liston, Cooper, Patterson, Quarry, Bugner, Spinks 2 (TWO) times and also Archie Moore, Ernie Terrell, Cleveland Williams, Jimmy Ellis, George Foreman, Larry Holmes and Trevor Burbick... ALL household names... all the big boys fought each other constantly... all the time... same in the 80's with the Great Middleweights... they ALL fought each other... too much at stake now not so much the boxer but the fucking money men...

GET THE GIGS ON

Exactly. Everyone loves to look back and think the old days were so amazing, but the reality is always different. Lennox Lewis keeps digging Joshua out constantly, but when you look at it, Joshua was fighting for a World title in his 16th fight, Lewis was fighting for the Commonwealth title in his 20th fight.

Wilder is clearly the one cashing in before rolling the dice against Joshua, fair enough, but how the fuck can anyone blame Eddie Hearn and TV companies for that?

It's PROFESSIONAL boxing. They do it for money. They are all three unbeaten world champions and will risk life and limb by facing each other when the money is right. They owe us nothing. Their 'legacies' are all secure and most of them won't give a shit about that anyway..

In the meantime, they will each have 3 fights against just about respectable challengers and bank about 10 million quid each. We can choose to watch those fights or not. As we can choose to watch or not when they fight each other.
